Livelyhood Organization Starts Inter Street Football Competition

Livelyhood Organization, a nonprofit organisation based at central Freetown over the weekend started its first inter street football competition for U-15/16 boys at the Ober Field in Freetown with 16 Street participating.


According to the Chairman of the Organization Mr. Nathanial Johnson, the competition is geared towards identifying young players who will constitute Sierra Leone formidable U-17 players.


The organisation is also using the competition to inform fans about their forthcoming ‘All Man yon Outing’ on November 3, 2019, at BorBor Beach.


Johnson disclosed that the winner of this maiden competition will received Le1 million, a big trophy and medals, while the runner up will take home Le500.000 and medal. He explained that for every match played they are giving the man of the match a small token, and for every hat trick, the individual player will receive match ball.


Mr. Johnson said that they have put mechanism in place to ensure that they have a peaceful competition, noting that they have informed the police about the match.


“We are not going to encourage any hooliganism during the competition, which is why we gave them the rules of the competition. If a team failed to go by the rules, we will ask them out of the competition, as stipulated in the rules,” he said.


“We are not only going to give the first and second prize but also the best player, best defender, best behaved team and best referee,: he said. He said.


“We are not hoping to achieved anything money from this football competition. We are using the competition to advertise our forthcoming outing,” Johnson said.


The open ceremony attracted dignitaries in the community, which saw two stubborn streets Fredrick Street vs Bamrrass battled for a win. Fredrick Street won the match by 2 - 0. Other result so far Ellebank Street lost to Steven Lane by 2-3.


Livelyhood Organization has a membership of 40 young men and women from various works of life. It is apolitical and has registered with the Freetown City Council.


Vice Chairman of the Organization Mr. Francis Jamal Martin said that the organization over the years had undertaken various community projects including the renovation of two taps and provided support towards education by helping few school going kids with scholarship before the advent of the free education programme.
